Sao Tome and Principe hosts next CPLP Summit and Presidency

The Conference, made up of the Heads of State and/or Government of all Member States, is the highest body of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

The powers of the Conference are:

a) Define and guide the general policy and strategies of the CPLP;

b) Adopt legal instruments necessary for the implementation of the present Statutes, being able, however, to delegate these powers to the Council of Ministers;

c) Create institutions necessary for the proper functioning of the CPLP;

d) Elect a President from among its members on a rotating basis and for a term of two years;

e) Elect the Executive Secretary of the CPLP.

The Conference meets, ordinarily, every two years and, extraordinarily, when requested by two thirds of the Member States.

Conference decisions are taken by consensus and are binding on all Member States.
